Based on a recipe from the 13th century, this wonderfully spiced cake was perfected in medieval times – and needs no improvement. Nannini of Sienna take particular pride in theirs, combining candied peel, almonds, hazelnuts, honey, cocoa and spices into a dense, chewy and blissfully satisfying cake.
